about my art....
I paint semi-abstract Australian Landscapes, abstracts, water paintings, grasslands, and whatever I feel like at the time. I like to tell stories through my art – or sometimes not. For me, it's boring to paint realistically, and it’s much more exciting to let ideas and images stew in my mind and dig them out later to paint the result… Sometimes I know exactly where I’m going with an artwork, and sometimes I have absolutely no idea at all. But it’s fascinating to me and a lot of fun, that each painting takes on its own personality irrespective of my intentions. There are themes and imagery I return to again and again – sometimes with years in between. They are interests, passions and forceful impressions I’ve gathered like a bower bird all through my life, and an important part of who I am. I also enjoy painting humorous themes, although they are like Australian jokes – not everyone cracks a smile or even gets them. I don’t care – they mean plenty to me. I truly love and adore Australia, its country, all its peoples, its colours, attitudes and really almost everything about it. Although I was born in Cornwall, UK, and I love it too, it does not even begin to compare with the love I feel for “Down Under”. I belong here, and I hope my artwork expresses that.
