This is a high-quality fine art reproduction of my original abstract painting “After the Floods”, inspired by the Australian landscape and created during an eight-day painting trip on the banks of the recently flooded Paroo River at Eulo in far western Queensland. I began this work with a focus on the aftermath of flooding and shifting land, moving into a more abstract and less literal approach, and developed it through layers of paint to reflect movement, change, and recovery over time.

On my eight-day painting trip on the banks of the recently flooded Paroo River at Eulo in far western Queensland, this painting was something different for me — more abstract and disconnected, and away from my usual style. I’ve been wanting to move in a more abstract direction, and this artwork felt like a step along the way. I had to resist ‘fixing’ things, connecting things, and even making things look like recognisable forms.

It was a surprise to me how good it felt to let go of my usual habits. It also surprised me that the painting still somehow embodied the way the landscape felt to me, just a few weeks after it had been six metres underwater.

This fine art reproduction is produced using high-resolution printing on canvas, designed to capture the colour, detail, and depth of the original painting.
