IN THE TROPICS

This is a painting on top of a painting - I threw a small 'tanty' and painted white jumbled leaves all over the painting beneath. This was very destructive and I have vowed never to do it again! Not only that but with my broken shoulder, my paintwork on the new white leaves is not my best work, but there is something about the rough linework and blunt colour palette that appealed to me anyway. I like the way different parts of the earlier, more subtle work peep through the negative spaces throughout while the colours of the top painting are literally ‘over the top’ and assert themselves over the earlier work. The result is a vivid and colourful jumble, but with enough sense content to hold it together......
