About this artwork

A soft violet mirage sits on the hard, rough & dry Mundi Mundi landscape. The artwork is visibly textured, with Kate Owen's bold original style & colour palette.

Kate says: "I love the Mundi Mundi area - the Mundi Mundi Hills and the Mundi Mundi Plains! Some people call them the Mundy Mundys - it's not always easy to translate Indigenous languages to English. One mundy would be one of these hills and mundy mundy means two or more - here there are definitely more hills!

For those who don't know, they are a few kilometres (12 from memory) beyond the tiny character-filled town of Silverton (well worth a visit in itself!), and Silverton is 25km beyond the infamous city of Broken Hill (AKA Australia's "Silver City"), which is far inland, near the border of New South Wales and South Australia.

It's harsh and arid country, strewn with rocks. The shadows here, beneath the rocks and the few trees that manage to survive, are absolutely black at mid day because the harsh sun throws SO much light and glare on everything beneath its gaze. I've tried to show this in the painting.... it wasn't hard though, as that is how it actually looked to me. Great dark contrasts from hill to hill and under every small rock.

And then there are the Plains! It seems they stretch beyond the Mundi Mundi Hills forever and ever. They too, are strewn with sharp rocks and slashed by dried runnels of sudden and short lived creeks. The texture of the Plains is also extraordinarily rough and hard to walk on.

But in this scene, the Plains are smoothed out by distance, and surprisingly, amidst the harsh oranges, blacks and ochres, they offer sweet pastel shades of violet in the form of a hazy mirage!

Of course it is not always like this. This amazingly variable landscape is a smorgasbord for landscape artists! It changes from day to day, and all throughout the day, from early dawn until evening, when perhaps it is at it's most spectacular. It's a magnet for local lovers who drive out here to enjoy the beauty of the sunsets over the plains and do whatever it is that lovers do..."

Shipping and Framing

Your museum quality Giclee print will be rolled and shipped in a Mailing Tube free of charge in Australia and overseas - see more information in my FAQs.

Mailing tube shipping is by far the safest, most efficient and economical way to ship artwork - then when you receive it you can get a local framer to frame it exactly how you choose.

If you prefer to receive your artwork ready to hang on the wall, simply have the work STRETCHED - (the sides will be coloured or mirrored to match the print), and it looks very contemporary (this is my preferred way to hang artwork). Or if you prefer, you can add a FRAME in black, white or natural timber. Prices will adjust as you explore each option in the purchase section of this page.

The resulting price is then all you then have to pay as shipping within Australia is included in the price.

If you would like it shipped overseas, please contact me directly. Depending on the location, it may cost a little extra if the print is stretched or framed - but I try to keep all prices as low as possible.

Note: we do not frame paper prints either here or overseas due to the fragility of the glass in the frames. It's much safer for you to get it done locally.

More about this print

These Giclee prints are produced on Premium Chromata LYVE 450gsm Canvas with 12 Colour pigment ink + Varnish (see options). The artwork was first scanned in high detail on a flatbed scanner. Each print is individually numbered and either signed, embossed with the authorised Kate Owen signature, or accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity - the scanned file will be destroyed when the limited edition of 50 copies World Wide is sold so that no further prints can be made.

My Limited Edition prints are available in the same size as the original artwork, or you can opt for an even larger size than the original artwork, which will look fabulous in more spacious homes.

It s also available on paper, which captures every nuance of the texture, and looks glorious in a box frame.

Because prints are much cheaper than the original, but still have the same WOW factor, you can get a lot more "bang for your buck" when you are buying art.

These are such high quality prints that most people can not even tell that it is not the original! For more information about this option, please see the print itself and go over to my FAQ for more information.
