ORMISTON GORGE

Kate Owen’s incredibly textured painting of the cliffs at Ormiston Gorge - the shadows on the rocks turn them from vivid oranges to a somber purplish grey. I was fascinated by the colour change and of course the extraordinary texture and stark patterns of the dark lines created by rock fractures.

I’ve used impasto medium and some of the actual sand from the Gorge itself to give my rocks plenty of relief (haha) - and so the painting carries the spirit of this special place from the West MacDonnell Ranges to my painting!
