This is one of my favourite paintings. The pink algae characteristic of some salt lakes (warm temperature combined with very high salinity) is glowing faintly through many layers of transparent colour to create a translucent depth.
White salt against glowing red sands is an image I am strongly drawn to - so naturally, I’m very fond of the artwork. There is plenty of abstract detail up close and a striking eye catching design from a distance.
It is definitely one of those paintings that gives you more the more you gaze at it and come to know it. The abstract markings on the landscape are clearly irregularities of the terrain, yet they are strange, unfamiliar and oddly fascinating, because your mind tries to make sense of them. Every time I allow my gaze to land on this artwork, which is often, I see something new: different and a little mysterious.
As you can see from the photos of this artwork it looks stunning on most wall colours. AND I recommend that you add the optional Float Frame to this work. All of the timber colours look good, but Black particularly enhances the effect of the pale translucent lake against the harsh red earth.
If you would like to see how this painting will look on YOUR wall, please email me photos of your room including one or two dimensions of any wall or furniture showing in the photo. I will send it back to you with the painting added and scaled to size! Just drop a note to me at kate@kateowenart.com - I'll be happy to show you how this or any of my other artworks will look in your home.
