RIVER MOUTH

The River Mouth at Noosa, tide in, crammed with yachts.  I love this river but this is a new kind of painting for me: new subject, new technique, new colour palette.  Only just finished today, it may yet be withdrawn for alterations.

At the moment it is very highly textured with highly textured pastel shades (reminiscent of one of my favourite groups of impressionist painters “THE FAUVES” - meaning WILD ANIMALS!  That is how the critics of the day reviewed, named, and dismissed them) but two dark (one almost sinister) river boats and bits of flotsam  preside, which spoils the Fauvist plan.  

Most of all, I’ve flirted with composition, disobeying almost all the rules I know.  That was fun - some rules are made to be broken, and I think art rules are nearly at the top of my list!
